Bob Griese was born to Ida (Ulrich) and Sylverious “Slick” Griese in Evansville, Indiana. Slick was an Evansville plumber who died in 1955 when Bob was ten years old. Bob primarily played baseball and excelled as a pitcher. He was also a standout in basketball and football at Rex Mundi High School in Evansville. For the Monarchs, he earned 12 varsity letters.
