Joe Dassin Parents

Joe Dassin Parents:- The son of American filmmaker Jules Dassin (1911–2008) and violinist Béatrice Launer (1913–1994), Dassin attended the Juilliard School of Music after graduating from a Hebrew High School in the Bronx. Dassin’s parents were filmmakers and violinists. Beyond his father’s Russian and Polish Jewish heritage, his maternal grandfather was an Austrian-Jewish immigrant who came to New York with his family when he was eleven.

He grew up in New York City and then in Los Angeles. When his father was blacklisted by Hollywood in 1950, he and his family were forced to move around Europe.

After moving to France, Dassin worked as a technician for his father and appeared in three films directed by his father, including Topkapi (1964), in which he portrayed Josef. A collaboration with Valentin Teboul on the famous Champs-Elysées Song in 1964.

On December 26, 1964, Dassin signed with CBS Records, becoming the first French vocalist to do so.

On January 18, 1966, Dassin married Maryse Massiéra in Paris. Joshua was born two and a half months early on September 12, 1973, and died five days later. Joe slipped into deep despair due to his grief. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t save their marriage. They divorced in 1977, one year after moving into their newly built house in Feucherolles, a Paris suburb.

EMI Music Publishing issued a covers/tribute album titled toi, Joe Dassin in 2020. The album reached #44 on the French SNEP Albums chart, indicating its popularity. As for Belgium, it achieved #26 on the Ultratop albums francophone list and #4 on the Swiss Hitparade Albums chart.
